But it scares me. How many years until the computers start thinking for themselves and building themselves. Its only a matter of time, you cant deny it wont happen. Sorry to say but it is inevitable. Unless we or mother nature destroys ourselves first..

And dont say it wont happen because we wont let it, someone is bound to make a mistake..

Not to be offensive, but this is I-Robot stuff that's perpetuated and will NEVER happen unless we allow it to, which is essentially what you learn in "Logic & Programming Design" type classes. It's possible, but a computer can't do anything unless you program it to.

But we will allow it to happen. Someone someday will build a computer that can process data faster and out think a human mind. Then they will program it to learn to see what will happen. It is in our nature to be curious. And that will happen and then that computer will cross that boundry.

By then we'll have multiple instances of self and be able to upgrade ourselves using horizontal integration (hopefully), so it shouldn't be an issue. Rule number 1 of computing; if its not attached somehow it can't affect it.
"This is a ridiculous cause and effect suggestion."
"Yeah, kind of like the sun rising and then morning happening, eh? What are they trying to pull on us?"

"If I wanted to hear from an asshole, I'd fart into a microphone."

"It's easy. Take the last f*ck, and let it go, and thus you shall have no more f*cks to give."

With genetic algorithms, machines can produce effects that would humans cannot comprehend. This is one example where your Rule #1 fails... and it baffles the guy who wrote the algorithm to begin with. Incredible how a computer that self-programs uses it's logic circuits in a way that is completely unrecognizable to a human.

Dr. Thompson peered inside his perfect offspring to gain insight into its methods, but what he found inside was baffling. The plucky chip was utilizing only thirty-seven of its one hundred logic gates, and most of them were arranged in a curious collection of feedback loops. Five individual logic cells were functionally disconnected from the rest– with no pathways that would allow them to influence the output– yet when the researcher disabled any one of them the chip lost its ability to discriminate the tones. Furthermore, the final program did not work reliably when it was loaded onto other FPGAs of the same type.

It seems that evolution had not merely selected the best code for the task, it had also advocated those programs which took advantage of the electromagnetic quirks of that specific microchip environment. The five separate logic cells were clearly crucial to the chip’s operation, but they were interacting with the main circuitry through some unorthodox method– most likely via the subtle magnetic fields that are created when electrons flow through circuitry, an effect known as magnetic flux. There was also evidence that the circuit was not relying solely on the transistors’ absolute ON and OFF positions like a typical chip; it was capitalizing upon analogue shades of gray along with the digital black and white.

    ^Thanks..

And with technology advancing the way it is, theres no telling what will happen. It really is inevitable .

I have programming experience and a few classes dealing with design. I believe it to be entirely possible. Just think about the AI stuff we have been coming up with...

We dont fully understand the universe, elements, physics, and even electricity.. I believe that all the laws of physics are not set in stone. They are bendable and breakable. You cant say they arent because we dont actually know. We dont know about parallel universes and or everything on antimatter..

You really cant say we understand everything about computers and programming. It may not be possible to happen now, but its very possible in the future. What happens when we start mixing machine with organic life or start making it so our machines create and change dna sequences?

I mean we have cars fucking thinking for us. Fuck that! Granted I know its just sensors watching for an object within a certain distance, but still. I dont trust these inventions. Theres so many different places that there can be bugs. I mean we havent even created a perfect OS yet..

Please dont argue that its not possible for computers to think for themselves and code for themselves and eventually take over. Theres no point because your not changing my mind lol.

Think about how technological objects were taken from Star Trek. We based inventions of that show. And we still do it today, whats different if we are creating fully sustainable AI's.

It really is amazing how a chip was able to program itself with analog behavior, when we designed it to only work with 1's and 0's. it seems that we are the ones with elementary knowledge, and the chip "knows" itself better than we will ever be able to.

Shakespearean monkeys, no doubt. It seems they've traded in their typewriters...
