    Damn...

    Curious. When these axles break, is it a torsion break from torquing a weak metal or a sheer snap from an extreme angle?

    i think they would break near the cv area but iv never broken rear axles before..so not sure

    The last one I broke snapped inside the CV boot at the diff...



    The fracture surface is basically flat with very little if any necking.

    It looks like a shear (ductile) failure due to torsional loading.

    In my case at least, there's very little squat at launch, so I wouldn't expect the angle of the shaft to play a significant role in the failure.

    Ah, good 'ol Mechanics of Materials. I hated that class!

    Looks like shear failure to me, too. Pretty clean break there.

    Sure looks like shear failure to me as well. I really doubt the angle of the shaft would have any bearing on the break, CV joints are there for a reason

    Yea its a very clean break...my previous axle was even cleaner than yours Adam. Ill take a picture of this one when I get it out.
