Take an air hammer or a deadblow hammer w/prybar and set it on the flat edge of the step on the bell that rests right against the transmission. Smack it towards the outboard till it breaks free. It will come out.

I think I do the same thing Jfast does (my auto vocab sucks). Get as much leverage as you can on something that you can slip between the axle (this part must be bell J mentioned) and transmission. Once you can get a good bite in there without it slipping out it's just a matter of force GL!

Sometimes a burr happenes around the clip and makes it tough to get out. If a large prybar doesnt knock it loose, use two 180 deg. apart, and pry with the longest one.

Pry bar. If that doesn't work, bigger pry bar. Pry like a man. A real man. If that fails, mini-sledge and a large flat chisel usually does the trick for me.

Kind of like when your ignition key won't turn cause the steering wheel lock, try rotating the axle back/forth as you pull. This worked for me, no pry bar needed.

You're making it harder than it needs to be.

The car is on jack stands I can get about a foot of prybar under there. I was assuming I was making it harder than it needed, to be that's why I'm asking for advice from people who have done it before me.
