Stock engine has a transaxle complete with differential, plus a transfer case bolted to it... Not to mention that Getrag with it's truck sized gears is about the noisiest bastard you could dig up. I doubt that's an issue...
And I agree... I doubt it's a coincidence the knock lights off at the same time the timing jumps up 5 degrees.
