    Angry Filing down calipers

    Hi All,

I bought new wheels that were aparently gauranteed to fit. Guess what they don't. The inner edge of the calliper hits the wheel. So the solution is to file it down or fit spacers. Spacers are illegal over here so trying to avoid that option. I started filing these down but i'm not sure how far I can safely go on these. It's a 1st Gen GTO TT.

Can anyone post pics of their calliper modifications?

It really isn't a big deal to shave them some more. A lot of material there. Do it and then paint! Never be able to tell if you do a good job rounding it off.

Yeah Scotty I let them know LOL. But 3 websites said they would fit fine so prob not his fault. Most likely the manufacturer. Don't think they know the 1990, 91, 92 & 93 have smaller discs :

Michael - Have you done this before? They look like there is plenty of material but you just never know.

You should be okay, mine are down quite a ways to fit my eagles. Another couple of millimeters and you should be good from the looks of things?

I think about 1-2mm should be all that's needed. Will just get the right nuts and get them fitted with the spacers then later keep filing down the caliper. Do you have pics of yours?

I helped a guy out a few years back with the same issue. An afternoon with the grinder and sandpaper took care of it. Trust me there is enough there to make yours fit. You look very close already.

Hey guys, I have lived by this repair mantra and you should think about it as well. ALWAYS ALWAYS modify the NEW part to fit and not whats there. It would be MUCH safer to take a few mm off the wheels instead of the caliper! Although it is a lot more time consuming. Someone with a large lathe could have it done in a small amount of time compared to using a grinder by hand.
