Yeah, as Greg said, it'll come down to money.

Not like being corked at 650-ish awhp is a real issue.

If i have a good winter at work i'll be fine.

If not, the cams/springs/etc will be next winters project. Bottom end will cost me low 5's. So i'll have 10k into the engine in big parts, another 1k in random expenditures. 3k into my trans, 7k into my turbo setup. Meh..just money.

Actually it would be nice to see a whatever cam you chose vs stock comparison. I've seen big power cars gain almost 100hp from a cam swap.

$800 for cams gears is a good investment now and just ready for cams later. That's a good compromise. Properly degree cams to "zero" on engine stand. Then take to dyno to see if cam timing frees up some ponies.

No doubt the gains will be great. Like you said one of the best gains are cams on a turbo car. ...but a motor swap is more work later than a cam swap. The motor is the foundation of the build. Every thing else goes on top of that.

So it's better to start with a solid foundation and add on as the budget allows than to build up another house and move out when it's too small.

Why did adjustable cam gears cost $800 and how did you ensure that they'll never slip?

Matt says the UR gears are the only ones he's never seen a problem with...basically unless i degree them, drill them and pin the gears, im afraid of the cheaper gears.

Save $500 but have to drill and pin? Sign me up I remember seeing pics from oohnoo a while back pinning a set of gears (to be fair I think he used a machine screw and nylock nut)... Do the 3SX gears (they've gotta be the cheapest, right?) have enough material to do this?

Haha yeah, i think Matt only has 1 maybe 2 sets of the UR gears left. Cant imagine why they havnt sold

Unsure on the 3sx gears. from the pictures it does not look like they would be possible to pin them.

No slipping on my UR with street cams, high rev springs and 8300 rpm a couple times. No pinning.

BTW, even if they slip, it could only do it 10ish degrees correct? (unless you were all the way maxed one way and it slipped the other)? Is that enough to cause piston to meet valves?
