    Engine Dilema...

    Need some opinions...

I'll keep it short and as simple as i can. Im picking up a spare block today and cant decide on two engine options.

built 72 with DR stage 3 heads/stock cams.
built 72/74 stroker with stock heads(rebuilt to new spec of course)/stock cams.

Setup is DR Garrett GTX2863R's with .48 housings.

I'd go stroker. You can always upgrade the heads later.

I like the upgraded head/cam combo...nothing like keeping it simple and fast.

One thing I don't like about the stroker is the cost of a replacement crank (unless this is the 74 crank). Ultimately it would be better, but I would opt for the 72 with nice heads.

Dilema is the right word, what a choice.
I think ultimately the 6G74 would be better in the long run, but I think I would go with the more tried & tested simpler 6G72 option

It's hard to give you my opinion. The stroked 72 is a 6k short block. I would do a built 74 for 4k. But what's the purpose for going stroked? I know it delivers more power off boost, more torque, and spools turbos faster. But your turbos should spool fast on a built 3l. And power can be made out of just 3l. What the Russian dude made 12xx awhp on just 3l. So 3l can deliver when needed IMO .
