new engine is being worked on. GTI still starts and runs on its glorious two cylinders of fury.

I bought a borescope and futzed around with it today to inspect the two cylinders with low compression. No detonation damage or holes in pistons, I guess I have to wait until I tear it down to figure out what went pop.
I installed the JDL overpipe and ultra-quiet frontpipe. A little bit buzzy for my tastes, but no horrible tingy noise like I had with the nameless pipe. The ISIS overpipe (read: ebay) was pretty low grade stainless, it was really nasty when I took it out. Had a couple of pinhole leaks on a weld too.
I replaced a crappy Vibrant gasket and made a video of my new exhaust setup.
Engine is nearly done... just waiting on piston pin clips for final assembly. Apparently the clips that came with my pistons were junk.
Like I said, crappy piston pin clips... Besides being 1/4" too big...

My 4th run was my fastest. I got bumped up class-wise due to my header. Still loads of fun!
Less than the equivalent set of ST suspension....($850 delivered) They need one new spring perch and the correct spanner wrench so they don't get wrecked again...
Not too bad for about 5 hours of work. Swapped the new power steering pump and spent some time messing with oil cooler placement. I also cut some new coolant hoses to eliminate the factory heat exchanger.
I can't find any evidence of what happened to this engine. No metal in the oil and coolant looked fine. I pulled the valve cover and everything feels fine...
