Coolant Leak Driver Side

Changing oil yesterday. I noticed some coolant leaking in the same area as the oil filter coming from above.

Its a DD.

Should I stop driving it immediately and torque on the water pump bolts? Breakdown and do the 120k about 15k too early? lmk what you guys think.


I figure its probably 1, 2 or 22 in the picture. And if I am that deep into it....

If I recall correctly a leak in that area indicates that the pump is starting to fail.

Unless you just replaced the pump/gasket I would look into a replacement Asap. If the pump seizes it will take out the timing belt.

You're right... I am due. I better start ordering parts. Lmk if you all recommend a source. Plan on ninja performance & nj mitsu for cam ring gaskets.

I will check it out. But still, after going through my receipts, its been almost 9 years since I had the water pump changed last. So either way, its due.

in process of changing out water pump...but it seems evident coolant leak is coming from somewhere up where between the ac compressor and engine (as looking from ds). Any ideas on what could be leaking coolant in that area?


edit: Primus! just saw your post...again. thats probably it. needed to do h20 pump either way.

Nope, it's a press-in style frost plug that is the problem.

Do you have the water pump out yet? have you noted where the weep hole exits the pump? (right over in front of the AC bracket)

Real, understand what you are saying. After I get it back together I'll ensure its still leaking prior to looking for the frost plug.

Surprised how much gunk and rust was behind old water pump. Took time to clean it well and apply some rust primer. had to use razor on old gasket. new one is metal. belt is on and sprockets and all lined up. save the rest for tomorrow.
