GoPro + external mic = win

Fed up with the on board mic on the gopro even with the sealed case. I only have version 1 so it doesn't have the external mic port. Decided to try a mic with my laptop and synced them up later. I'm going to have to do this from now on! Didn't try hard with the sync so it's a bit off, in the future a makeshift clapboard will make it easier.

(videos aren't anything special, just messing around near the house)

I stuck it in a sock and kinda jammed in the center console lid (sticking out)

So with newer gopros, you could buy the external mic, plug it into the camera and it would be synced without any additional work? Are there any suitable places to permanently mount the mic? Not that shoving it into a sock and wedging it in the center console isn't elegant Nice work!!

Yeah the new go pro has the jack, you might have to enable it in the menu. I want to play around with locations. The trunk might be cool because of the exhaust note but I think I might pick up too much fuel pump whine. It would also have to be a location that doesn't get much wind.

I think I might start selling a mic kit. Comes with a mic and a sock (sock may or may not be used).

I've used external mics for years with my Mini DV camcorder. Radio shack has a nice powered lavalier mic for under $30 that I use. I just cut a small piece of foam rubber and shove the mic up into it for a wind screen. I used to tape one on the rear bumper of my ION Red Line and one in the interior by the console then both mini jacks plugged into a 2 to 1 mono to stereo adapter that plugged into the camera. I had steller exhaust sound and the interior had the autox announcer that was coming over the radio.
