A buddy and mine left Cape Girardeau Missouri at 12:00 AM Friday night. The idea was that after work I'd sleep for 4 or 5 hours and be in good shape. Unfortunately I couldn't get to sleep and we left for Oklahoma City and I'd been up since 8 on Thursday.
We drove through the night and made it to jrod's dealership at 8:30 or so, but he was waiting on a notary for the title, so we got some breakfast.
About 10 we bought the car and started to head back. I had zero problems with it except I was just devastedly tired. We finally got back to cap around 8:00 PM. 16 hours of driving on no sleep was not fun. I don't think I will try it again.
I bought it with the knowledge that something is wrong with the transmission. 1st and 2nd gear have decided to take a vacation. I suspect that the roll pin has fallen out of the shift fork, but won't know until I get it taken apart. It could be the slider or something else with the fork, it is really strange. I'm able to find 1st and 2nd sometimes, but not usually.
Amazingly the car has enough torque to start in 3rd with just a bit of extra clutch slip to get going, so that is what I did coming home. It was about 550 miles each way.
The car is in amazing condition. Stock except for exhaust. It is in such great shape, the seats aren't even worn. The door panels are flawless, I think it must have been garaged most of its life.
95,500 miles when I got it. I have a stock of papers an inch think of maintenance. The engine pulls very strong for running stock boost. It pulled the huge hills in 6th easily, I never had to downshift.
I'm not sure what I'm going to do exactly about the trans. If there is major interal damage the rebuilt 5 speed and billet transfercase from my 1992 is going to go into it. If the damage is minor I'm considering sending the bellhousing to ray for a brace and fixing it. The 6 speeds are relatively ok with a bellhousing brace. Worst case is I could wipe out the transfer case gears, but I plan to run street tires, so it may be fine.
I could then sell my billet case and put a stock t-case in the 1992. lots of decisions.
The DR750s, the FMIC, stop techs, and the stereo stuff is coming out of the 1992 and going into this one. I'm probably going to swap the seats too, since the ones in the 1992 are custom. Seems a shame though since the stock ones in the 1995 are almost perfect.
I'm going to put the stock turbos and fuel management into the 1992 and sell it as stockish. It will still have a rebuilt engine, so I hope to get a decent price for it. Its keeping the 99 bumper as well. The 96 spoiler will go on the 95 when I have enough money to paint it. The 1992 will get its original spoiler back.
At least for now the car is going to stay stealth. I may eventually put a 99 nose on it, but we'll see.
Jared is a great seller and sent tons of pics. He was very honest about everything and went out of his way to make me know what I was getting.
Here is a pic from jrod, I'll get some of it tomorrow before I start tearing out the trans to see what's up.
I am going to swap my konigs and s-tech/bilsteins on it as well. It already has the knock off tanabe, so I may keep that. It is a little more mellow than the atr, but still sounds good. It is going to be a ton of work, but I think it will be very nice when I'm done swapping mods over.
