    sequential ignition

Just an update about my AEM 8 Channel CDI & AEM short Coil On Plugs.
As I have the 8 channel CDI, I decided to go with Sequential ignition instead of wasted spark. I had a problem with the brand new AEM EMS 2, pin 91 which is the dedicated pin for number four coil was not working, instead of going through the hastle of sending the EMS off to the US, I got a local ECU repairer to fix it and now everything is working OK.
The main reason that I went with sequential ignition is that it enabled me to lose the PTU as well as the coil packs tidying up the engine.
Below are a couple of pics showing the setup, the blue wires going to the COP's are just covers, there are just two thin wires going to the COP's.
The CDI is under the stainless cover on the left of the engine bay, this is because one of the vents in my PRM hood is above it and the rain was soaking the unit.

How's the twin fire working for you? Mine would work fine until the engine got warm. Then it would misfire like crazy and make the car fall on it's face. I suspect it might be my ptu so I swapped another one in. Next step is removing the ptu altogether, but I like having the bypass plug option.

To be fair I dont know yet as the car has not been on the road yet, although I hope to get it maped in the next two weeks and then we will see.
If you have a 8 chanel cdi I used the wiring on page nine which enabled me to remove the PTU.

Your build turned out so great! Congrats on everything. Go enjoy it! BTW, the COP upgrade is awesome. What was the dwell and charge difference between the OEM vs the COP?

Just a quick update, car is now on the road, CDI & COP'S are working fine at all temp's.
I dont beleive in running in engines so just putting a few hard miles on it to loosen it up before taking it in to be mapped.
I dont think I have to worry too much about knock as the TD05 20G's are only boosting to 12psi at the moment and there are big black clouds of excess fuel followed by 6ft flames coming out of the exhaust (running a bit rich lol)

I know this is an old post but I'm very interested in doing the same thing on my set up to take advantage of the knock-per-cylinder detection/control of the AEM EMS series 2. I don't suppose you could share your setup details, like part numbers for coils, part numbers for coil drivers, specifics on dwell settings, etc.? Your engine bay looks very clean.

    Thanks,
    -Greg

    Sure Greg,
The coils I used are AEM 30-2850. If you are going AEM you can only use the 8 channel CDI as there are not enough coil outputs on the 4 channel one.
I used the instructions for wiring the coils to CDI on page 9 of the AEM 8 Channel CDI manual.
When you go into the coil setup in the AEM EMS 2, the crank settings are there for the other three coils you just need to check the box.
    Jeff.

The coil drivers on the AEM EMS 2 are as follows.

    Coil 1 - pin 10

    Coil 2 - pin 23

    Coil 3 - pin 11

    Coil 4 - pin 91

    Coil 5 - pin 82

    Coil 6 - pin 85

You will note that although my AEM EMS 2 was brand new in the box, pin 91 was faulty and did not work so I had to get it repaired.

You will find more info in this thread, http://www.3sgto.org/3000gt-stealth-...t-rebuild.html

Jeff, thanks for the response! You only mentioned turning on coils #4-#6 but did you also disable #1B, #2B and #3B?

My current setup looks like this:
    CoilsOptions.png

It looks like I need to turn off the 'B' coils and turn on 4, 5, and 6 but also copy the "Coil Phasing" values from the 'B' coils to their respective new coils.

Also, did you need to change any of the advanced pickup options like "Spark Teeth"? I've been reading on these options and the base map I started with seems to already be configured to sequential ignition even though my ignition is the stock wasted spark setup. The following screen shot shows what I'm talking about. Wheel Teeth is set to 6 and so is Spark Teeth.

    WastedSpark.png

I'll have to check my pin 91/coil#4 to see if it's busted too.

Thanks again. I'm getting excited about running sequential ignition!
    -Greg
