Which "Values", precicely, are we abandoning? Are you saying that victims hold some sort of moral high ground?

HA! You don't get it. It has nothing to do with being a victim...only that you guys are more concerned with being armed. The point of using fear is to have you looking over your shoulder, thinking you need a weapon, and wasting your time trying to anticipate their next move...you give them control over facets of your lives, you let things like the patriot act go by without complaining, cheer for politicians who waste your country's wealth in the name of 'defense'. Heck, look at the money spent combating terrorism, vs. spent to prevent further deaths on the job, on a per death basis. If you guys let 'em get you by the balls and drag you down, that's giving up your freedom, and your money.
"This is a ridiculous cause and effect suggestion."
"Yeah, kind of like the sun rising and then morning happening, eh? What are they trying to pull on us?"
"If I wanted to hear from an asshole, I'd fart into a microphone."
"It's easy. Take the last f*ck, and let it go, and thus you shall have no more f*cks to give."

Idiots, simply by being idiots, seem capable of achieving randomly bad things that are beyond the imaginings of sensible people.
until you have read, comprehended, and can issue an exceedingly brief, factual, meaningful rebuttle to phillip bobbitt's "terror and consent"--then i don't want to hear you ever speak horseshit like "waste your country's wealth in the name of defense" or " money spent combating terrorism vs. preventing deaths on the job".
you know nothing of how terrorism actually works, of the nuance required to respond to it appropriately, nor of what the true meaning behind a "war on terrorism" actually is. has the USA gotten it right at every turn? no. does that mean that we'd be better off if we were like canada and sat with our collective thumbs up our asses in response to acts of terrorism? hell no.
i'm fucking sick and tired of canadians always spewing bile about how the US is so crazy about defense spending. it must be nice to have your next-door neighbor providing the guard-dogs, CCTV surveillance, flood-lighting, barbed-wire, etc...when the most you can be troubled yourself with is putting a luggage-sized padlock on your 3' high fence.
do me a favor. go live in iranian prison for 3 months and then come tell me that we're not in a continual war against tyranny.
"for those who have fought for it, freedom has a flavor that the protected (and apparently canadians) will never know."
do you sleep peaceably in your bed at night? well you can thank the rough men standing ready to do violence on your behalf, you pinko.
Cute. Tell me, exactly, how long are we supposed to mourn the dead before we're allowed to consider how we would protect OURSELVES in a similar situation? Is a few hours long enough? A day? A week? How long before we're allowed to discuss the circumstances of the event?
Because you some how missed it when Valhallaz asked, which values did we abandon? Your peers on the left would really like us to abandon the 2nd amendment and they were the ones that planted the seeds of this debate within minutes the tragedy, calling for stricter gun control for law abiding citizens. I just about threw up when I went to CNN first thing in the morning, just hours after the event.
This is barely even tangential to your preceding post.
WHO "used" this fear? Gun distributors because they profited?
WHO was given control? Other than all the citizens that got CHL's, of course.
The Patriot Act? Tell me again, how were we to prevent that from being passed? In the ~45 days after 9/11, were we supposed to organize mass protests in DC to prevent the passage of legislation that had overwhelming bipartisan support? That said, this tragedy in Aurora was undoubtedly just another "embarrassment" for the NSA, so I'm sure they'll get more secret funding that we have no control over.
Are you guys taking a slower, more incremental route to the same place?
