Just installed rod bearings - are these damaged?

I just took my new self build engine apart again due to low compression values which have been traced back to valve issues which the machinist who did the work decently fixed without hassle. (detonated piston fragments found so head wasn't properly cleaned and flushed.) I thought I may have broken a ring when I was installing the pistons so took the engine apart completely. Anyway this engine has neither been installed nor started since this very new rebuild. I did hook it up to a remote starter switch to turn it over several times to check oil pressure and compression. Oil pressure did build up to 30psi so was pretty happy about that but I'm not so sure if these rod bearings look so good and I'm hoping someone in the know could put my mind at ease. Experienced opinions anyone?

block or something wasn't cleaned worth a damn?

That's definate foreign object damage, you can see pieces imbedded into the bearing. I'm guessing pieces of old bearings/piston were sucked up into the pump, made it through the filter, and into the new bearings. Hopefully the crank wasn't scratched. In any case, those bearings are now garbage. I would pull the oil pump apart to see if it was damaged as well.

Yikes.... There's something floating around in that motor. you need to scatter and clean it again.

Where did the crank come from? Did you change the oil cooler?

If the machine shop didn't even manage to get the valves clean, I'm pretty sure they wouldn't have pulled all the galley plugs and brushed them out... I wouldn't bolt those heads back on until you're confident the oil galleys are clean.

LOL. I just wiped the oil pan and yes the performance shop didn't flush the block either. full of detonated piston fragments. Damn. Installed new oil cooler and pump. I think I'll get away with repolishing the crank, but you're both right. I guess I'm in for a new pump and cooler core again. Soon of a... Oh well, better I found out now than later.

Not sure. I'm pretty new to this so didn't know what questions to ask or what to expect. Until now. The guy came highly recommended but then there's only two guys on town so... Lol.
