K&N 1005 Larger Filter in stock location

Thanks to a fellow on the other site and some internet cross referencing I have confirmed that the KN 1005 oil filter will fit in the stock location and screw right into the filter housing. It fits just fine on the sealing surface and the threads are the same.

Compared to the stock size filter this thing is huge, the dimension listed do not reflect really how much bigger this filter is until you use both side by side.

This thing BARELY fits. I would avoid non K&N styles for this filter size because you probably won't get a filter wrench on this, but the nut will work fine.

This barely cleared my aftermarket oil cooler fittings, but nothing rubs and it fits like stock except its huge.

It holds a full 8 oz of oil. I did not measure the stock size filter, but I would judge it to be 2 more oz than stock at least. Hopefully someone with a new clean filter can test it for me.

I finally found a filter than looks like it isn't meant for a lawn mower.

    1.Fits like stock.
    2. Cheap, about $10 on sale.
    3. Locally available.
    4. No mess or having to clean the thing
    5. No complicated parts or seals to fail.
    6. Much larger, more filtration capacity and you will hold slightly more oil, which is always a plus.

give it a try I don't think you'll go back.

Green Latern and some others have had an issue where part of the stock filter adapter casting prevents the filter from sealing properly all the way around, you may have to file or grind it (keep shavings out of the oil passages):
