My experience with small dogs is that they are spoiled, untrained ,yappy ankle biters(totally owner fault). My experience with larger dogs is loyal, trained, loving,,,, even when poorly trained. Its my experience that the small untrained dogs are royal pains in the ass and most(not all) owners of small dogs do not feel the need to train them and treat them like cats. (I have met some of Jeremy's dogs and while small they are well behaved)

My experience with cats is that they can be loving, bitchy, cranky, playful and annoying. but they are less annoying that untrained small dogs.

I very much dislike most small dogs, they're nasty and annoying as hell like Alan said. Seems like most small dog owners are just as obnoxious as their dogs... I like big dogs, and cats either ignore me, or cuddle me. I was apparently tackled by an overly friendly big dog when I was a kid, and I'm slowly over getting over the fear of being mauled when when jumps up on me and sticks its nose in my face, lol

I have never met a person that hated my dog, and I never will. Even people who are allergic to dogs. That I can promise you. In Alan's words, yes, my dog is a mutant. A cute adorable mutant that never barks and will enthusiastically show affection to anyone and everyone who comes to visit. Only she's of a size that doesn't intimidate or scare children.

    P.S.

If we had to make a side-thread for vacuum cleaners, shouldn't we be making a side-thread for fucking pets...just so that the big dog owners can try and convince each other that they have the best pets in the world...when people with small dogs know better?

An uncle of mine in Roscommon had a Newfie that weighed 185.

I was about 10 when he wrapped the leash around my wrist and said, "Now, don't take any shit from from him, tough guy".

Down the long country driveway in the woods about 100 yards, there goes a rabbit.

I took a head-long trip about 100 more yards, through the woods, parallel to the ground for the most part - thumped about ten trees.

He only stopped cuz I got wedged into some deadfall; he fucking near tore my arm off, then he started licking my face.

A buddy of mine had another huge Newf, started showing indicators of displaysia at about 14-16 months or so.

They put him on steroids to see if he'd bounce back a bit, and he did, but they thought it was an iffy tradeoff because the dog (his name was BARK) ended up 220 lbs.

He lived to be around 8, I think.

Funny, seems like I only told that story about a week ago, somewhere else...

I'm a mid sized dog fan. I have a 65lb pit bull, and a 40lb pit mix. A medium dog, especially a pit is worth more for home protection than a pistol, and doesn't smash the couch just sitting on it.

The reason I like dogs for home protection is that someone can't take my dog off my wife and make it bite her.

Personally I feel small dogs are useless. At least a cat provides rodent protection.

Oh, I understand all of that, Carlos - I've kind of looked for the opportunity to get a small dog myself, because if I own it, it won't be a yapper, cuz my pets never are.

    Not sure why that is.

Dogs, even the small ones, are a spendier proposition, though.

I love dogs, but cats are cheaper, so I'll prolly always have more of them at any given time.

Missus J and I have been talking for years about not replacing them when they pass - we'd like to get around a little more often, but events conspire and we can never get away except one at a time.

As to your gymnast, I have no comment except to note she warrants reproducing, here.
