Actually it is we stuipd Americans, and some select Aussies, that think the 1/4 mile is the fundamental measurement of car performance. It is no happy accident that European car makers consistently push for balanced driving machines over straightline monsters. Our approach of shoving a big inefficient engine into a car that has laughable suspension technology isn't something that the others can't do or didn't think to do. It is something they chose not to do.
So much America going on right here it brings a tear to your eye.
No. The point IS that you are not going to be the top dog at road course, autocross, and drag. Wanna run 6's, well you aren't going to be making any turns. Want to kill it at road course, well you aren't going to be running 6's.
I appreciate a balanced car and enjoy keeping up with lap times at the 'ring, and other courses. But, facts are facts, that shit doesn't interest the average consumer. What does the average guy do with his car? Stomp it on a straight stretch. People don't go buy Mustangs, or Camaros, or Vettes, or BMW's, or Mercedes, or Vipers, et cetera, for their skid pad results. It's horsepower, plain and simple. Are there people that make a decision based on the 'overall' capability? Abso-damn-lutely, and I applaud that. To suggest that line of thinking is even a decent percent of the market share, is without merit.
p.s. Europe can blow me. Ameristralia FTW.
