i know why this nation is where it is. this is the natural progression under a long-standing state of peace in which war does not touch the homeland. 150 years ago in the civil war--that's the last time there was any impetus for maintaining the freedoms and essence of the USA. when freedoms are not regularly challenged, those who enjoy them will eventually grow to disregard them and willingly forgo them for a greater illusion of security.

and we all know what benjamin franklin said about those who would give up essential liberty...
