someone explain to me why you'd need something that massive....vs. just using hollow point .308's?

Well, rounds like the .50 are feasible in military use. Hell, they can take down a chopper. However, a .700 Nitro is like a dyno queen Supra. It's glorified and made to impress people on the firing range like a Supra is on the dyno.

against machinery, sure...i guess that makes sense.

hollow point 9mm will take the back of your head clean off...so i just find it hard to imagine that "big game" could be more effectively stopped by such a massive caliber--instead of a hollowpoint.
