    Not quite.

    The chain-brake is actuated by the left hand as it leaves the saw in the event of a kick-back; in order to do this, the hand has to make slight - but purposeful - contact with the bale that extends from the brake mechanism around the left circumference of the saw, extending past the upper grip, adjacent to the knuckles on that hand.

    It is still entirely possible - though a bit more difficult - to make contact with a turning chain.

    All depends of the size of the saw, with a small 10 inch bar, it'd be hard to fall on. If you're running a bigger saw with a long bar it takes a second to stop.
