Use the adapter from lightning to 3.5mm stereo jack.

^ My only issue with this is you cannot charge it at the same time now, Other than that getting rid of it doesn't bug me.

I haven't done it yet, but Android is supposed to have this feature in their camera too. With my 6P, the camera is amazing, and the photo stitching is amazing too. Did some photosphere photos, some tall and some wide pano pictures, and the stitching is practically flawless. I'll have to share some later.

As for the audio jack, I use an iPhone for work, and I do use the audio jack on both my personal and work phones. I have a set of bluetooth headphones, but rarely use them. Hopefully this pushes bluetooth to become better quality and better reliability. Either way, I use the headphone jack a lot.

When it comes to the reasons why they did it. It doesn't look so incredibly thin that they wouldn't fit it. As for water proofing it, I'm sure you could seal it just fine. A short of the pins inside the jack won't really do any damage, just as long as the water doesn't get into the phone from there. Not like there is a ton of power being pushed through those pins.

I personally think Apple just did it to get in the news cycle a little longer, and have a reason to sell something else proprietary.

Unless BT quality was absolute shit before and I missed it, I don't see the bitch about BT headphones.

I have a set of Jam Transit BT headphones I got for my birthday awhile back. They were $50. Sound quality is damn good. I use them when I mow the yard and other stuff. I have another set I bought at FYE for $12 and sound quality is good too. They aren't as loud as the Jams, but I use them at work and if I break them, it's $12.

That being said, getting rid of the headphone jack is stupid. If my batteries die I can still plug my BT headphones in via an auxiliary cord to listen to music.

Apple just likes to stir the pot and it works well. They were one of the first to omit disc drives from their laptops and people said the same thing.

Mainly due to simplicity. Granted there are things I hate like the fact I can't just plug it into my comp and it reads it like a storage drive to swap media. As for the headphones jack, I got a set of bluetooth headphones from Amazon last year for like $30 and love them. I use them all the time and never had any issues with them. Hell one of the top rated ones are on sale right now on Amazon for like $25.00 - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B016Y8XJCW/

I can understand the need to remove it as not only did they save space removing the jack, but it's also easier to waterproof now and it eliminates all of the digital to analog circuity and need for software support.
The signal is still analog at some point, any way you slice it. You will have an amp and DAC in both cases, 3.5mm or wireless. The amp and DAC just move from in the phone, to being a part of the headphone. So either way the signal is analog at some point.

And of course Apple has a solution for those wanting to use wired headphones and charge at the same time...a huge $40 dongle! Oh, also need that adapter too. So, headphones to adapter to dongle. Simplicity at its finest!
