When I say needy, I mean they don't NEED you around. You can easily leave a cat alone for a few days as long as you have a decent size litter box and food bowl. You cannot do that with a dog. We actually got lucky with our cats, none of them are assholes. But I have been around asshole cats, and I just wanted to choke the shit out of them. Think it all depends on the owners.

My dogs are trained to stay by themselves. I do it all the time.

Cats have the personality of a rock. A creature that occasionally pops out of hiding to shit in a box inside the house, nah. I'll take a companion that goes for walks, listens, and shows at a sense of character over a creature that's naturally prone to living as a social loner. I'd get a cat if I lived on a farm to keep away mice, that's it. Otherwise, they're as useless as their owner's social complex.

Hard to believe there are so many people who have trouble getting squared-away with animals, period.

If I had the wherewithal, I would take in every animal I could, with no qualms or quibbles.

By and large, they're more agreeable, easier to deal with, and better-behaved than humans.

I totally agree. I'd take just about any animal over most people any day. which is why I don't want kids. they're like cats but worse.
