Personally, I loved numbers 3, 5, 11 and 19 on the list with number 5 being my favorite.
Been a few months since I've done any math, but lemme see if I can bust out some algebra for you. (open to corrections by other people if I'm wrong.)
X^2 +2x + 1 can be broken down into (x+1)(x+1)
X^2 +3 cannot be broken down. If you use the quadratic formula (-b plus/minus the square root of b^2 - 4ac all over 2a) you end up with (-0 +/- sqrt (0^2 - 4(1)(3))) / 2(1) Or in otherwords the square root of -12 all over 2. You can't have a negative square root. Best you could do would be to break it down into imaginary numbers (2i * sqrt3)/2 which would give i*sqrt3.
You can't just multiply it times its roots because there's no way to split that into 2 parts without introducing a 3rd. Example of improper application for sqrt of x^2 + 3 would give (x+sqrt3)*(x+sqrt3) except that when multiplied back out, you'd end up with x^2 + (2x*sqrt3) + 3. You can't split the x^2 +3 into a (x+sqrt3)(x-sqrt3) because you'd end up with x^2 - 3.
You can't solve for x^2 +3 = 0 without breaking the rules. You end up with X^2 = -3 and a squared factor cannot possibly equal a negative (any x^2 will be positive no matter the value of x with the exception of 0.)
In short: x^2 +2x+1 / x^2 + 3 is as compact as you can get it.
