^ So this one time, I was returning from a deployment on a chartered flight. That's right, not a commercial flight, a commercial plane that was hired to transport ONLY MILITARY PEOPLE back to the states. There are no metal detectors, frisks or bomb-sniffing dogs on our way out of "the sandbox". I happen to be carrying a small pocket-knife in one of my pockets.
Everything is fine until we get back to the USA, and we go through customs (I don't remember where, but I'll say it was Jersey, because I fucking hate Jersey...and we'd been through there at least a couple times). So we'd already been flying for the better part of 15 hours or so...just to get to this airport, and I'd been "armed" the whole time. Well now I have to go through a metal detector, and they "catch" me with a knife on me. I calmly explain that I'd been flying with it for 15 hours already, and furthermore--being a military member on a military only flight--why in god's forsaken name would I possess intent to harm anyone or hijack the plane--ON A TRIP THAT IS RETURNING FROM DEPLOYMENT. They don't care about that. Nor do they care that--also as I'd explained--I could have left my knife in the seat-back in front of my seat--and no one would have noticed, cared, or said anything.
So the TSA confiscated my knife. 'murica.
