I've decided to sell my car

I guess it's just time. I'm going to put it up for sale in the next month or so probably, but I wanted to ask everyone whether they think it would be worth it to take the car back to stock as much as I could, and sell the aftermarket parts separately. I can't take the car completely back to stock, but those things that I can easily swap out I will.

The details: 1991 Dodge Stealth TT. 1 of 93 (there are far less remaining now) in Napier Blue/Bright Turquoise. Ported 13T turbos, MAFT, Z06 MAF, RC550 injectors, Stillen Downpipe, rear cat gutted, welded and ported stock exhaust manifolds, HKS Super Dragger exhaust (yes, the real deal,) Enkei RPM2 18x9 wheels with 265/35 tires, UR underdrive pulley, UR LWFW, DXD-F clutch, carbon fiber DS, solid motor mounts front and rear, Apexi AVCR boost controller, SX AFPR, Supra pump, lightweight battery moved to rear, Greddy BOV, Greddy Turbo Timer, DSM intercoolers, Momo steering wheel, Autometer C2 fuel pressure, NB O2 gauge, and boost gauge (boost gauge never installed.) Custom hood, similar to the Victory hood and the Stinger hood, Polished front valve cover and spark plug plate, upgraded wires, etc. I'm sure there's more but you get the idea. I also have parts that I never installed, like a brand new NoCar billet TC, mated with a brand new factory TC. Zero miles on them. Also have a 300M output shaft, never installed/used. Have a set of fixed headlights as well, but they don't fit a R/T, TT without modifications to the bumper.

The car has 93k on it. Never been rebuilt. Lifter tick, but no smoke, VSS are still good. Only issue is the A/C, which will be fixed shortly (leaks.)

The car is in extremely good condition given its age. It's got some small dings here and there, but no paint flaking of any kind. I'm not going to post pics here since this isn't a for sale thread, but more to see what I could get for it with the car modded as is, or if I take it back to stock as much as possible.

I still have the stock full exhaust (which actually works) and the stock driveshaft. Pretty sure I have the stock injectors and I know I have the stock MAF. 13T turbos will remain on the car as I sold the 9b's long ago. Stock steering wheel can go back on as well.

So... what do you think I could get for the car in modded condition, or should I take the car back to stock as much as possible and sell it that way?

Bummer, but I can't blame you.

You could probably get what, $600 for the CFDS? $150 for the MAF/MAFT? $150 for the injectors? How much is your time worth? One thing I've noticed is that selling used parts is a lot harder than it used to be.

Since you're not willing to really dive in and take it back to stock, I don't see much point. The parts I could see preventing a sale would be the clutch and solid mounts: "Woah this clutch is stiff" ... "Is it supposed to vibrate like that?"

No clue what you could get for it, but I think it is wildly variable depending on the overall condition of the paint and interior. Vast majority of 1G's are big turds, so it's no surprise they're priced the way they are.

    Set the over-under @ $8K?

Since you want to go back to stock on some parts, I will trade you my stock DS for your CFDS :P

Sad I never got to see this car in person. Good luck anyways.

KBB doesn't even go back to 91 anymore, so I ran the check for 92, and it says it's worth about $5300 retail. Go to Nada however, and do the classic search for a 91, and they say high retail is $21k!!! Avg retail is $15.8k. Sucks that there is such a discrepancy, the cars that have been beat to hell are really depressing the values I guess.

I'm going to take it to the next Cars n Coffee meet around here, and stick a for sale sign on it and see what happens.

NADA is full of shit. You won't get anyone to spend a dime more on a '91 vs. any other year just because of what NADA says. The market place drives the prices, not NADA, KBB or EDMONDS. The VR4 we just picked up was a '91 and there were no takers for his original price of $7000

If you read the most recent conversations on selling modded cars, you will not get what you have into it unless you get lucky and find the one in a thousand cash buyer that loves what you have to sell. I bought in 2007 and 2010 two highly modded cars, each having well over $50K spent on them for roughly $.20 on the dollar. My stepson just bought a VR4 that was a medium modded vehicle and the asking price of $7000 turned into a sold price of $5500, basically because I was the only serious buyer in 2 months on the market, had cash and that is all I was willing to pay. So take it for what it is worth, the economy sucks and our cars are a hard sell with a lot of money in mods sitting in them. If you want to maximize your investment, you must part it out. PM pezcore and see if he will tell you if it was worth it to him to sell his car that way.

What sort of condition was it in? Modded?

Texas rust free, forged internals, ported & polished heads, 16G turbos, SAFC II, intrax springs, staggered 19" wheel tire combo, racing seats, FMIC w/big piping, dual Apexi cat back exhaust, full Second Generation conversion [fiberglass hood, 99 Novara front end, '99 sail panels, bomex skirts and rear bumper], 8000K HID's, 157K on the body 14K on the engine. Receipt for the engine build was $5400 alone (not including 16G turbo kit). Basically, I knew what my stepson's budget was and that is all we could/would offer for the car. It was a prime example of the market dictating the price of a car. What ever the object is, it is only worth what someone else is willing to pay for it. I was the only one willing to put $5500 cash in front of his eyes for his car, he could have said no and I would have left. The market for his car (me) was only willing to bear the $5500 to consummate the sale. That is how Barrett-Jackson works. The only thing there is they get a gathering of people with more money than they know what to do with and for the most part what ever insane amount of money they spend on a vehicle is rarely missed from petty cash. It would be interesting to see a stand out example of a clean high HP 3S at one of those auctions to see what kind of sale price it could generate.

I was just going to suggest big name auction for a 91. Better be VERY clean (inside and out) car though. Dyno wouldn't hurt either.

Otherwise, part out seems to be the way to go if you have time and patience.

It wouldn't bring squat. There's no interest in a car like that, at a sale like that. A low mile virgin would bring infinitely more money...and it still wouldn't bring all that much, considering. B-J is the worst thing to ever happen to car collecting, for the common man.

Wow. There's certainly some risk with that engine, but at $5.5K given everything in the car, worth it.
