Tried to order a part from Miata Roadsters...

If this is in the wrong forum, feel free to move it...

Anyway, ordered an oil pressure sending unit online through Miata Roadsters in California last week. Today, I get an email from them, telling me they undercharged me, and I need to send another 14 dollars. So I do, but then I get to thinking that that's no way to do business, as his price was clearly advertised.

So I call him up, and tell him that in all fairness, he should honor his advertised price. He replies "Well, how do you expect me to stay in business that way?", to which I reply "Well, you might try honesty... I did after all pay what you advertised for the part, as well as your specified shipping cost."

I just got an email telling me he doesn't want my kind of business, and he'll be sending me a refund.

I guess honesty is too much to ask for. Heh...

I wouldnt expect him to lose money on the transaction, he is a business after all.

    In his polices section
    "ACCURACY OF OUR STORE:
Manufacturers periodically update their product specifications and prices, facts which aren't always brought to our attention. We do our best to assure the accuracy of our store's prices, images, and text, but we're only human and sometimes we make mistakes. If you catch errors, please contact us."

Seems fair, this situation in no way would deter me from ordering from there...and I may or may not be collecting for a project that involves him

I paid the difference... And product, I can understand, but he raised shipping as well, after the fact. Good business is, you advertise a price, you honor it. He refused my business because I suggested as much.

You are of course free to give him your business. I will not. He made it clear he doesn't want my business, nor does he like complaints.

I always seem to undercharge people when shipping. I never ask for them to compensate and I'm not even a business.

if you worded it like that, you DID sound like an asshole to him, I guarentee it.

I've told people to F off before that came at me with a tone. Sometimes it's just better to lose a sale then to deal with some people. That being said, the way he handled it was totally wrong.

Chris, I see your point. Perhaps I worded it badly.
I think the major source of irritation was that he'd waited nearly a week to spring the extra cost on me, when I'd thought the sensor was on it's way.

I got quoted a certain price a while back on some parts for my bike, never got around to ordering and asked for an updated quote and was told that they'd honor the quoted price even though their new price is higher. Doing the reverse is just bullshit.

I have to empathize with anyone trying to do business in California, but $14, PLUS additional shipping?

Did the part grow, along with the price?

If the guys biz is gonna fold if he eats $14, he shouldn't be doing what he's doing...I find myself wondering how often he has to make such corrections.
