Which 5th gear are you talking about? Manually lists two, one on the intermediate shaft, which is the small gear and one on the input shaft which is the larger one.

I believe I used my bearing splitter to grab underneath the gear to press the hub off.

thanks, that is what I was going to do. Just seems like a lot of load for those tiny teeth.

I don't think I could do it any other way with the tools I had since that gear is recessed. I've done this twice on two separate trannys. Might not be the best method but it worked twice.

thanks again. That seems to be the way the getrag manual depicts it as well.

haha haven't messed with it, had to work. Going to take it apart later tonight though, I'm sure it will be ok. I may heat the bearing sleeve a little. Last syncro to replace and I can get the shafts back in the case. Wasted some time last night trying to get one of the counter shaft snap rings into the into the input shaft They are quite a bit thicker, thought the gear wasn't pressed enough, whoops! I'll use a different snap ring then that poor guy I tried to stretch over the input shaft.

Hasn't been a bad job, but I've been waiting a while on the parts for 5th.
