How much oil does your car use?

I changed my oil yesterday, had at least 8-10k miles on it, 10w-30 high performance oil. I was at least 2 quarts low. I had even added a half quart for a HPDE back in March.

It doesn't leak a drip if I leave it overnight, 1 drips if it sits 48 hours, leaks from the pipe fittings on the sandwich plate.

My car doesn't smoke ever, redline shifts, idle, moving after idle, decel. Is this a common problem to lose oil when there is no apparent leak or burning of the oil?

I know you guys are just gonna say, "Think with your dipstick, jimmy!". I guess o just have to check it more often.

Not really related but the new oil is Amsoil high zinc high mileage 10-40 synthetic. Before warm idle was 1.6 bar, now its 1.9.

I change oil at 3,000, and don't generally have to add any between changes. If it's down half a quart, I'd be surprised.

I would never go over 5000 miles for an oil change myself. I don't care what the bottle says, 8,000 miles is pushing it.

You would be dumb to change your amsoil below 5000, waste of money, its still good.

Anyways, I have my oil analyzed and rotella still does its job at 5000.

    From the phone.

Truth, I have a sample of AMSoil to send in for analysis, that was the typical, one year (well for me due to little amount I drive the Stealth) plus NG week.

It's not the oil breaking down I'd be worried about, but the contamination. Especially with how rich these motors can run at WOT.

Why? I have had 2 autocrosses and 2 HPDE's and 4000 street miles on oil before, just traces of fuel in the oil, everything else was OK.

I dont care how often you guys change your oil, what is your consumption like?

Mine does not use any since I rebuilt my engine 33,000 miles ago. Redline 10W40 changed every 4,000 miles. Before the rebuild, it would use a quart every 3,000 miles or so. But yeah def keep an eye on it. I always check mine when I fill up with gas.
