Cool Picked up a Bobcat on the side of the road

On the way to my chemo this morning, we found this poor guy on the side of the road. He had been hit and in pretty bad shape. Took him with us to Lancaster SC, 30 minute ride, to a vet to have them assess him and most likely put down to stop his suffering. We couldn't just let him lay there and die in pain and alone laying on the hot blacktop as cars and trucks just drove by at 65MPH. Poor guy.

A good size, maybe 30-40 pounds, young, larger than any domestic cat I ever ran across and 4 times bigger than our cat. HUGE teeth. Probably would have made mince meat of me if he was feeling better. He was well behaved for the trip. Only kicked around 3 times. I kept him on my lap in a blanket to minimize his movement and pain while still allowing him some space for cooling and breathing.

Got to the vet, they were a bit surprised...being a wild bobcat and all.The quickly took him in and assessed the situation. He was in very bad shape and they quickly put him to sleep easing his pain. Sad but glad he didn't have to suffer any longer. Very beautiful animal nature made. So glad we were there to help him out the best we could. Wish we could have done more.

Can't believe I had a wild bobcat in my lap for 30 minutes. Just goes to show you, you NEVER know what each day will bring.

    -Chris

You're a brave man for even approaching that thing Chris. They are some mean creatures when on the prowl.

And when injured they can be crazy, sporadic, and unpredictable. But sometimes ya gotta say...well. hope this goes well LOL. I said that to myself as I leaned down to pick him up off the road as gently as we could. Scared? YES. but it had to be done for his sake. Lucky....yes we were. In regular health, it would have torn me to shreds.

Yeah. This kind of reminds me of when my brother and I saved an owl from the side of the road. It could have easily snapped a finger off with its beak or torn us up good with its claws, but it realized we were only helping and relaxed.

You are so awesome. Thank you for being on board for turning around and picking him up. Of course, I thought it was just a regular cat as we passed it. Oopsie!! And thank you for driving from the vet's office while I cried.
