CX Racing 70mm Throttle Body Question

Also looking back to the thread when SSM was selling these POS for CXR... this is what Chatz says.

We contacted CX since they are the ones that contracted this part locally. SO far we have not heard back from them. I took one apart and from what i am gathering everyone is leaking on the cable side. Now these were suppose to be built with boost aplications in mind. as the company that builds these also builds for the rx7 and supras. There is an inner seal behind the bearing. to me it could be thicker as well as a double seal. I am going to look into our own solution untill we hear back from cx or the manufacturer.

There is clearly no "inner seal" behind the bearing. Unless he is talking about the o-ring on the shaft. If the N/A cars that are using this TB are have leaking issues, it's not the shaft o-ring that is failing. The OEM N/A TB don't use the same shaft seals as a the TT TB.

I'm trying to see if Alan or Jeremy will move the recall thread out of the SSM subforum, so I can see what all was said.

ok several of these billet Throttle bodies have developed leaks. Since these are under warranty, I have talked with kevin at cxracing the OEM manufacturer and the actual manufacurer they have found a solution for these throttle bodies and will be machining a new seal step in the shaft housing and replacing the seal with a much thicker one. These units have to be sent to cxracing. Please send via UPS fedex or USPS Kevin has agreed to cover shipping cost coming and going up to $10.00 per on incoming shipments and cover full shipping charges back out to you.

I got a call from CX Racing yesterday and said they were going to be shipping mine back within the next day or two. They also mentioned someone else sent theirs in as well and should be sent out around the same time. Either way, thumbs up for CX Racing if they end up fixing this.

Well, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I just received my replacement from CX today and this one leaks as well. It leaks from the same seal on the firewall side. Just to be sure, I sprayed soapy water around and it was definitely that damn seal again. So if you are overseas, I would hold off on sending yours back. Sigh! Honestly, this is rather frustrating if you ask me. I have spend more than enough time on this (with shipping and removing/installing). I think at this point, since this is my 3rd TB sent back, I believe I am entitled to a refund of some sorts. I really tried to get this to work, but it doesn't seem to me like they even bothered pressure testing it and that these seals just aren't up to holding boost. I couldn't even get 10 PSI out of it with out leaking. Either way, I can't keep spending $ on shipping this thing back and forth. Please let me know my options. Thanks.

Just a little news for you all who purchased the 70mm throttle body. just talked to Kevin. he didn't give me a 100% answer on what he will do as of now. he did say he will correct the issue one way or another. he did say one of his customers received a rebuilt one from him and had no issues. whether this is true or not i don't know. but just so guys are in the loop i told him i need this resolved as quickly as possible. once i get word from him i will let you guys know the details.

I can verify that, the customer hasn't had a problem so far.

gltasn has one that was rebuilt. He's a bit of a perfectionist with his car, so you might follow up with him as well and see if his is still holding up.

thanks for getting into this btw. i was about to give up and put it on a dohc w/o a turbo.

Wonder if I can fit an oring under the bearing and press fit a washer of some sort over the top of the bearing? I know, I'm thinking of backyard mechanic stuff now.

I doubt the other one that was claimed to be problem free, has held up either. I've not heard of anyone having success with these, unfortunately.

im not gonna name any shops but im sure one of the supporting vendors on this forum would be able to work with a company that actually produces quality tb's,maybe someone like bbk. my point is they cant say theres no money in it becuase theres no other competition and a quality product sells itself. i would have bought on of these had they been a quality product and im sure theres other who agree.

CX racing really don`t give two hoots about our problem.

For the outside of the bearing to the housing you can get a "bearing fit" solution in a tube, possibly made by Loctite. Would seal it 100% airtight and hod it in there for good (takes 24 hrs to cure).

For the sealing issue to the shaft, I¬ve seen thin plate seals that could fit behind the bearings, with it being a bearing it`s possible there would be one to fit our application.

Such a shame really, the bearing mounted shaft is a great idea but let down by the poor execution..

Well, as long as you don't ever want to take the TB apart, you can seal the shaft inside the bearing as well.

Yeh but there`s the problem of the bearing dust covers letting air through. They aren`t designed to hold any amount of pressurised air in normal operation. Then again they COULD be fine!.

I`ll be putting 30psi through it so it`s got to be right.
