    CX Racing 70mm Throttle Body Question

    So we all know that they leak like a sieve, duTTch sent me his to see if the OEM style seal would fit. Well, the answer is no. But I may have found the problem with the leaking and now looking for suggestions on a possible solution.

    Here is a picture of the seal. One the left is the OEM type and the right is the CX. The CX seal is all one piece, but the center metal sleeve works like a bearing turning with the shaft. The shaft also has a small oring to seal against the bearing.

    I think the problem may be is the whole seal itself has nothing to "seal" it to the throttle body. It's not "pressed" in like the OEM set-up. All it has is some little metal keeper. Once the metal keeper is remove, it takes very little effort to pull the whole seal out.

    I was thinking of trying to use some sort of gasket sealer, to act as a seal between the TB and the CX seal. Just have to make sure that the shaft is still able to rotate.



    Thoughts?

    Maybe NAPA might be able to find a seal that would work if you have the measurements. Can you post a pic of the TB where the bearing fits? Could you even fit a seal in there or is there only room for a O-ring?

    That's the thing... the bearing doesn't fit into anything. The only that keeps it in place is the shaft and the little metal keeper.

    TPS sensor side, you see the little metal keep.


    And throttle spring plate side with the metal keeper removed.

    Is there anyway a seal would fit before the bearing or after? Maybe a bigger O-ring?

    Might try to see if I can get an oring sandwiched between the tb and the seal (bearing). The only thing I'm worried about is that little metal keeper is not strong enough to "hold" the seal against the oring. I suspect that is why they leak in the first place.

    Turn a rod down so it is a press fit and acts as a better stay?

    that's what I would do. take it to machine shop and tell them to make it fit... air tight.

    There is already an oring on the shaft... and it fits into the bearing. It's a shitty design.

    I don't see any way making it a press fit at this point, there isn't enough material.

    Can a machine shop add material? Or would they just make a new oring seal set-up.

    It would need a seal below the bearing. That's going to take some ingenuity. Hard to say how to fix it without seeing how it all comes apart.
