My LAMP server broke! GURU's help!

    Here is the run down.

I am running LAMP on Ubuntu 12.04.

Last night I rebooted the server for shits and giggles. The server was at a 4 day uptime. (I just built it on the weekend)

When it came back up I couldn't access the webpage, it was giving me a 404. So I did a "/etc/init.d/apache2 restart" and received the following "How to fix Apache – "Could not reliably determine the server’s fully qualified domain name, using 127.0.1.1 for ServerName" "

After googling around to find a fix or reason why this would just randomly happen, I came up with nothing. So I just went ahead and uninstalled apache2,php5, and phpbb3. After reinstalling them, I am having stupid issues that I cannot figure out.

I try accessing http://www.theotter.org/forum and it downloads a file named "download"

Same thing when I try to log into http://www.theotter.org/phpmyadmin

    I am stumped.

If anyone has any ideas, let me know. Or if you want to toy with it yourself, let me know too.

    Its apache config related.

Apache needs to know that it needs to parse php files and not just pass them to the browser. The browser does not recognize the PHP file as something to display do you get the download box.

couple of things... first, Linux server does not need to be rebooted for anything but hardware issues. And second, use Debian. More stable, less updates and changes that could possible brake things. this is just IMHO

I know, I am not new to linux.

As for Debian, I like Ubuntu more. Just my personal preference for my fuck around box.

Hence the reboot for shit's and giggles.

But, all is well and everything is coming back to normal.

Do you have an actual backup or the raw DB files?

I am guessing they are raw. They are .sql format.

Depending on their size you might be able to use phpmyadmin.
