92 pop up headlights not popping up - help please

Both of the headlights on my 92 will not pop up. The lights actually come on and both work.

I've changed the switch near the instrument cluster but no effect. Is there a fuse or a connector I can check? I'd swapped the engine harness (but not the fusebox harness) but i'm not sure if that would make a difference.

There's a fuse for the pop ups, but I don't have my manual right now to tell you which one. Also, the connection in the stalk could cause the problem too. You know how to manually crank them open in the meantime, right?

Yes but it's a pain to do when your in a hurry.

So the switch inside the stalk can break?

open the hood right by the headlights you will see a small rubber boot pointing towards you, remove the boot and and turn the red knob to bring lights up manually so they are at least functional till you find the issue.. it may just be a wire binding. installing HID's on mine caused it to get stuck and the issue was the bit of tension from pulling the ballast up with the light

mine are actually acting up again. it takes a couple pushes of the button to get them to come up sometimes.

last time they wouldn't come up/down my dome light, power locks and something else wouldn't work either.

it was a big fuse under the hood on the passenger's side in the front labeled battery.

i should probably check mine again

Odd development. After verifying fuses are ok, now it will pop up every time but not go down. Pushing the button on the cluster has no effect.

Actually I've had the battery out several times while working on the car and it didn't make a difference. But I'll try that again.

The headlight motors are powered by a relay. Be sure to check the relay by tapping it with a wrench or switching it with a known good relay. Sometimes the contacts inside will get stuck.

I don't see a relay in the fuse box for the lights.
