External Wastegates

Hi What are peoples thoughts on external wastegates?

I was thinking Tial or Turbosmart as there's not many really to consider...

But my attention has been turned to the new watercooled version

Has anyone used these, how are they for reliability Is the plumbing a nightmare?
Would you run a water feed to the actuator before or after the turbo or in parralel?
It can also be ran without a waterfeed, how does this compare for reliability?

just get the regular tial wastegates

Standard Tial will work just fine. No need to reinvent the wheel by adding completely unnecessary components.

Indeed, effectively, your cooling your exhaust charge post wastegate, the only reasons smaller turbos use water cooling is due to less tolerance for heat ( less mass) and to avoid coking the oil in the housing on the shaft and bearings spinning at 120k revolutions, the wastegate is just a metal plunger with a heat tolerating diaphram, there really isnt much benefit to be realized, and may potentially be cause a slight issue with scavenging due to the slower, colder exhaust being vented back into the exhaust stream.

Thanks guy's now why didn't I get notifications!

My research is showing that turbosmart is more expensive and slightly better. The water cooling on the Tial is for the diaphragm, I'd be very surprised if it cooled the exhaust gas, that would not be the point of the system! It is to prolong the component life, it can also be used without cooling. The UK distributor now only keeps the water cooled ones in stock. I'd have to order the original ones if I want them - price difference is negligible.

Yes turbo is big enough, current wastegate is not working.
