Ever wonder what Apple really thinks of its customers?

I had some extra time tonight to sit down and look over the guy's site a bit more.

This little gem stood out to me:

While holding up the press release outlining the 8600GT replacement program, they claimed that, because the CPU in my MacBook Pro was clocked at 2.6Ghz, and not 2.4Ghz, or 2.5Ghz as stated in the release, that I had a completely different computer … one that was not subject to the 4 year replacement program.

You see, when I ordered my MacBook Pro, I paid about $300 extra for them to up-clock the chip from 2.5Ghz to 2.6Ghz.

Something doesn't add up here.

What this guy is failing to realize is that Apple received a bad batch of NVIDIA graphic cards. NVIDIA denied that it applied to the ones Apple received. Apple didn't believe them and ultimately spent their own time and money to look into it on behalf of their customers:

In July 2008, NVIDIA publicly acknowledged a higher than normal failure rate for some of their graphics processors due to a packaging defect. At that same time, NVIDIA assured Apple that Mac computers with these graphics processors were not affected. However, after an Apple-led investigation, Apple has determined that some MacBook Pro computers with the NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT graphics processor may be affected.

Some MacBook Pro's were affected, and I'm sure Apple has the technology and records to figure out exactly which computers these affected chips went into:

MacBook Pro (17-Inch, 2.4GHz T8300)
MacBook Pro (15-Inch, 2.4GHz T7700 and 2.2GHz T7500)
MacBook Pro (Early 2008)

Based on everything this guy has confessed, it is clear he owned the 17-Inch, 2.6GHz T7800 or T9500, neither of which are documented as having graphic cards from the faulty batch.

As I said earlier, this guy isn't telling the full truth (which wouldn't surprise me, as that may not generate nearly as many hits on his site). But if we can't believe bloggers, who can we believe?

The 8600M GT issue was a very wide spread issue among all the major vendors. It effected Toshiba, HP, Acer etc..... iVidia created a repair fund for this of $200,000,000.00 to fix any effected equipment. Basically they said take htis money to fix it all and when it runs out that's the end of it. And it wasn't just the 8600M GT GPU's that where effected either. It was all GPU's based on that series. Typical Apple behaviour. Oh we can fix it for free...... but we won't..... cus we suck dick......

Uh, the computer stopped working. Why would it matter if its "documented" or not to have a card from a faulty batch? And whose word are we to take about which computers are faulty or not? Oh, right, Apple. They tell the truth about everything... as evidenced in this court case. It stopped working because of the GPU, which was a known problem and under warranty. They just didn't want to fix his comp, even though they admitted it would cost them nothing.

Read that last sentence again Shaun. Now tell me, is there ANY logical reason why a company wouldn't fix a problem for a customer if it cost them NOTHING to do so?

@GTOJOE & UT, you're making the same fallacy as the blogger. Want an example? Take this outbreak of salmonella in sushi. 141 people in 20 states gets salmonella poisoning from eating sushi. Any person with half a brain would not assume that ALL sushi (8600M) of ALL different types (Apple, Toshiba) and ALL different creation dates contained salmonella.

Apple did the legwork to figure out which MacBook Pro models were affected, and this guy's laptop model was not among them. He argued with a technically-inept Judge and, from what I gather, lackey interns from Apple's legal department.

Oh, but they did. Many of times. Otherwise you would see a LOT more complaints than the one this "Seattle Rex" guy posted. There would be a class action suit, and there's not.

Here's some quotes that were easily found by people that had the opposite experience than the experience this guy had:

My 2008 MBP had symptoms of failing video in early January 2012. It was purchased in Feb 2008 so it had a month to go on the 4year extended Nvidia warranty. It was tested and repaired by a local Apple Service Provider and had a new logic board installed at no charge. If you are within the time limit there is no problem. Otherwise contact Apple directly for an explanation.

My 1 year warranty has already run out. Apple has not extended my warranty, and did not allow me to tack on Applecare, though they did authorize a logic board replacement, free.

if you payed for the repairs apple will refund your money.

I just got my MBPro 2.4 Ghz (nVidia 8600M) back from the Apple techs and they replaced the logic board for free as part of the recall program. Great stuff. Solved my black screen on reboot and sleep problem.

I have a late 2007 MacBook Pro 3,1. I used to notice lots of odd video related things, like random lines/colors flashing on my external display every now & then for a fraction of a second. Finally, one day in 2009, my laptop screen got jumbled (displayed lots of vertical lines). This would come & go, but was there 90% of the time.

Took it to the Apple store, where they diagnosed a faulty nVidia card. I was out of warranty (didn't have AppleCare), but they replaced the logic board for free.

I've been jumping around the main point all thread, but maybe I should just get straight to the heart of the matter.

Apple according to you:

• Apple has an 87% Customer Satisfaction Rating, placing them in the top spot for 8 years running among PC manufacturers. This guy must be part of the other, lesser 13%. "Apple sucks."
• NVIDIA makes a faulty batch of graphic cards that affects nearly all laptop manufacturers. "Apple sucks."
• NVIDIA lies to Apple and tells them that the units Apple received weren't the faulty ones. "Apple sucks."
• Apple launches an investigation to find out if NVIDIA is lying, finds that they were. "Apple sucks."
• Apple pressures NVIDIA to take care of its customers. "Apple sucks."
• For however many people that were affected, Apple dedicated the time (and therefore had to pay their tech support and act as a middleman) for dealing with NVIDIA's mistake. "Apple sucks."
• The list goes on...

Don't you guys ever get tired of putting down the competition? Does this make you feel better about yourselves?

If it makes any difference, I had a Sager Midern computer with an 8600m GPU which died, was replaced, died again, and was replaced again. I was told that this was a problem with the whole line and it would be fixed for free, which it was. As far as I knew, all 8600m GPUs were deemed faulty.
