    DIY Evoscan cable?

I know people have succesfully built their own cable to datalog using evoscan. But all the threads are old and part's lists are out of date. Anybody still know how to do it?

    Thanks!

Buy a generic OBD2 cable from the Chinese on eBay for $12. Just make sure it's based on an FTDI USB chip.

Open it up, and solder a short wire from pin 1 to pin 4.

    Enjoy.

(I am not responsible for a shoddily made Chinese cable allowing a voltage spike into your USB port)

thats the one I use, just an FTDI USB-Serial adapter, pins on the left are the Serial port pins (pinouts on google), down the right are the associated pins in your 12 pin diagnostic plug (again, pinout diagrams with pin numbers are readily available on the net).

Thats for 1st gen only though

Pretty sure evoscan is for ODBII only. Your Diagram is for ODBI datalogging using something like MMCD/HHH

    Check it out on Youtube!!

Evoscan also works with OBD1 cars. Too bad Evoscan forces you to use an FTDI-based USB-to-serial converter even if you have a serial port built in.

So it just logs then?!?!? Kind of a waste to buy it as just a logger......

I looked at the site and didn't see anything for ODBI cars. Just a sections about the 94-95 hybrids.

EvoScan is $25 and gives you more features and flexibility than any Palm-based logger could ever dream of. What are you complaining about?

And it works fine with ANY 3S provided you have an appropriate cable.

What features are available on EvoScan for ODBI cars that are not available on MMCD??

Not complaining just stating that for ODBI it is nothing more than a logger. There is no tuning ability available in any software for ODBI vehicles. So if someone has ODBI then EvoScan is nothing more than a logger with tons of features they would never be able to use.

I rather like having a palm based logger as it is small and I can store it anywhere. Plus they are cheap to replace if one dies. MMCD is also in the process of being ported over to Android so it will run on any Android based phone

EvoScan is PC based so you have to have a computer of some sort to run it.

Also MMCD is open source so if you can code in C/C++ and have the Palm development studio you can make changes to the software as needed. Plus it's Free!!! Granted MMCD is not longer supported or being developed, but then again neither are the cars so not much really needs to be changed in the software past personal preference.

Customizable parameter lists, vastly enhanced graphing capabilities, higher speeds, and support for 94-99 MUTII protocol. (Do not confuse that last one with OBD2. They are two TOTALLY different things)

Just a few off the top of my head. EvoScan is 'just a logger' for all of our cars. You use ECUFlash for programming.

My Acer netbook fits in my glove box and cost less than $150.

Tell me something...did anyone ever get Palm Desktop working on Windows Vista and 7? Last time I tried it, I couldn't even get MMCD onto my Palm V to begin with due to the fact I'm using a modern OS.
