Can I branch off of my fuel pump hotwire to supply a small amp?

Pretty straightforward question. I was just given a couple 8" kickers (yea, haven't heard of eights in a while, huh? :P) and an amp that I reeeeally want to hook up. Rather than running a new power wire on back, would I be drawing too much current from my 8 gauge fuel pump rewire power supply if I simply teed it off for my amp? The amp is a fairly old (yet perfectly competent) Alphasonik USA-2100 (2x100).

The system is tried and true for literally almost two decades
60% of the time, my car works every time.

I'd run a new wire. I'd rather not draw current away from the pump that could be avoided simply by doing it the right way.

If it wasnt something as important to a turbo car as the fuel pump, I'd say calculate the max amp draw for each. Then determine the max draw safe for an 8gauge and see what you can do.

However I wouldn't take a chance on something like that. Its easy enough to run a new wire. 8awg I think is overkill for a fuel pump. So maybe a nice option would be to run a new 10gauge or even a 12 gauge for the fuel pump and use the 8gauge for the amp setup.

Personally if you are going to run something heavy like 0 guage I think it would be fine and it is what I plan to do. You have to realize at some point the bottleneck is your charging system.

Look at the wire the factory ran, lol.

Sorry to dig this up but I have to agree with you. I ran a 4 gauge to the rear into a distribution block where I connected my amp and fuel pump.
