Idiots, simply by being idiots, seem capable of achieving randomly bad things that are beyond the imaginings of sensible people.
X2 for what milt said. i will be running phantoms as well. i'm a big fan of mechanical also--although if i could afford, i'd consider nexus. i consider boost to be a must-have gauge. my car is a DD, and it's a great reference point to help me keep out of boost--if i so desire. i'm also a fan of MBC, and you need a gauge if you run MBC.
i plan on putting dual LHD, dual RHD, and 3 in the stock location. driver's pods will probably be boost and wideband. center pods will probably be oil pressure, coolant temp and transmission temp. passenger side will be voltmeter & something else. i don't consider pillar-pods to be a nuisance as some do. i've never had issues with vision limitations (the gauges are virtually overlapping where the pillar is from my view-point).
ideally though, i'd really just like to rip out everything and put a custom 5"x9" LCD display screen in place of the main cluster, and just plot all the readouts on it. maybe someday.
p.s.
i don't know why autometer is not as highly regarded. they are THE gauges to have for price/performance, imho. very hard to justify the upgrade to defi from autometer--at least for me. even then, i'd drop coin on nexus.
I can probably sneak my laptop in the car with me next HPDE, will let you know. I have used an IR temp gun and shooting at the radiator hose and the valve cover, pretty much the whole engine, the oil temps are about 5 deg C hotter than the coolant after a 30 min session.
I just know I have never seen the stock water temp needle past 3:30.

I went with the STRI gauges from Maximal and will be installing them soon. I went with oil press, oil temp and coolant temp for now as I'm still on stock injects/ECU. I've got everything figured out except for the coolant sensor. I'm sure one of the stock sensors can be removed and replaced with the one from my new gauge? afaik the plug in the radiator is the sensor for the ECU so perhaps one of the 2 sensors on the coolant feed neck is unnecessary? my car is a 91VR4
My other thought is that since I'm deleting the FIAV, I could tap into the port that feeds into the throttle body on the feed neck?
I'm not a fan of the clamped into hose sensor attachments, so trying to avoid that.
what's everyone else doing?
The smallest sensor on the coolant feed neck is the OEM temp guage sender, I replaced that one.
Jeff
So I had a question about oil temperature gauges when running long periods of time (road racing). Why is it a good gauge to have?

Lol well of course. How does it differ from the water temperature gauge? I assume it will be higher but when will the oil temps show me something different than the water temp?
