Thread: I want this plenum... anyone know who made it?

  1. #261
So I made 2 small adjustments to get it to fit better. It clears the rear valve cover without a spacer. The 3sx spacer is 1/4" thick so it would have even more clearance with that. I just need to get it in a file his water jet can read. He uses Omax Layout.

True. I still may go that route, we'll see. My concern about it (and with the DR one) is how far over the TB flange is. They both seem to be more towards the passenger side of the car. My IC piping leading into the TB wouldn't be able to make the curve and I don't want to relocate my battery.

The other thing I was thinking of doing is something like the DR one. You can get a 3mm thick 3.5" or 4" aluminum pipe that is 2' long from cxracing for $39-$42. Add a q45 flange ($30-$50), a small 4x4" sheet of aluminum ($10) and you'd have everything you need to modify a vr4 plenum. I have a tig welder and can kind of weld but I would want it professionally done so the beads look nice. I usually tack stuff together and have my friend do it.

I showed Rodney the box last night. He took that and the lower section with him to work. He said he was going to draw it up for me today. He plans on cutting it out Friday. He wanted me to figure out how thick of material I want to use. He was recommending 1/8 aluminum which is 3.175mm. Is that thick enough for the body? My IC piping is cxracing which is 2mm thick. The TB plate will obviously have to be thicker.

You could make the TB plate thicker than the rest to save material/cost.

Ross Machine extruded plenums are 1/4" wall thickness. TB mount is a little over 3/4".

My q45 throttlebody came today! It is definitely bigger than I expected. It just looks gigantic next to the stock one. I just need to take some measurements for the flange and my friend will have everything he needs to cut out the manifold for me.
