More cost effective is something that uses stock lowers like zesty...

or this one, but it may not fit under stock hood...

Zesty looks like it has decent plenum volume and fits underhood but would only have about 7" runner length using the stock lower...peak power at approx 12k rpms....maybe someone can calculate if there would actually be gains below 8k or just losses.

For a 3.0 liter v6 to have peak torque at 6000 rpms, with standard 272 cams, a 6" long runner with 2^2 inches of area is what the calculators point towards. This is using the 3rd induction wave.

Terry B. had Hogan make him a manifold many moons ago.

That's not bad. My measurements have the stock lower to intake valve closer to 7" which could bring it down to 5500? and should work well for many medium to large turbo setups. I didn't look at stock lower runner area though. Most big turbo 3.0 setups don't hit peak tq until 5500-6k anyway....has to be power hiding there.....Would love to see Chris put an IM and big TB on his car and see what happens.....

Here's another one like the Zesty.

I like the Zesty more. The curved sides get a little more plenum volume. 18hp isn't bad, but not sure what it started with and not sure if the turbos were out of their comfort zone. That was with stock TB. Zesty is also stock TB which seems silly. Q45 seems to be the way to go.

GTPRO "budget" mani picked up 30hp on a 16g car at 12.5psi. It was just a bigger plenum and bigger TB on stock TT runners. Required a couple clicks more fuel on arc2 to keep afr's the same as stock.

I am calling to find out the height of the tank, and will try to calculate clearances with the hood to see what options we have in placement.

Casting an alternate tank may be an option, but will most likely need a minimum order to make worthwhile.

Here is another one using the stock runners...

So who's gonna be the one to step up to the plate and do something?

^I've been trying to find pics of that one. Thanks for posting. Probably one of my favorites because runners are shorter than XM but longer then Zesty. Probably closer to many of the stock 4g63 manis. Also could still be used with pass side TB and not have to move coolant filler neck like the Zesty. Should also be easy to hook up throttle cable.

Not to muddy the water too much but another option for production is "allmotormike" on tuners. I had contacted him before, but I wasn't ready to pull trigger and wasn't exactly sure what I wanted. He is game though and quality is top notch. He'll need a car to mock up on, but I'm sure we could probably convince a PHX member to help out.

A bigger throttle body might help HP numbers, but I'm not sure it's where the biggest gains would be had for power or for sales. An intake that requires a Q45 TB or similar is an added expense for people and would limit potential buyers I think. Make sit unlikely to see the kind of numbers of buyers that would be necessary to make it cost effective. I would think that the holes for the Q45 and factory TBs could both exist though and allow the option, might be a better way to approach it.

Bigger plenum volume is more valuable IMO. If someone could make a tank that could just be welded onto the runners and people could cut their factory runners to the length that they want/need. Then you could adjust as necessary and just have to pay for the cost to get it welded if you don't have a welder. Since the runners seem to be roughly the same shape for most of the length, shouldn't be too hard to make a tank with a flange to weld the runners to. People wanting ultra short runners are semi on their own since you can only go so short before you run into the bolts for the upper.

Just a tank that can be sold by itself would cut the costs down for most folks and be easier to sell since most people could customize it to fit their needs. Include the bolt holes for the factory TB and for a Q45 shouldn't be too tough, and then boring out the opening for the Q45 would be all that needs to be done to step up in size since the interior of the plenum area would already be significantly larger.

I'll ponder it me later today after classes how it might work. Cost seems to be the biggest factor for most people who would buy it, and nobody is going to step up to make a manifold if there's no profit in it. The $300 manifold that was posted earlier is probably about as cheap as it gets, and most likely to sell compared to the 600 for the GB going on now.

Theoretically if the runners are shortened enough, couldn't the manifold just have a bolt on elbow to allow it to be turned to whichever direction the buyer wants that wouldn't hurt flow/hp too much? Might even help with the throttle cable mounting or coolant filler neck clearance.

Looked up "allmotormike", his stuff does look legit and his prices are decent as well. Maybe could work out a group deal.
