    ABS/Anti lock troubleshooting

im currently troubleshooting my abs system, as I need it working to get it approved.

When measuring at the ABS ECU harness connector E-12 (pins 33/31) I got zero readings, so I disconnected the Front right Speed Sensor from its Connector and did my meassurment there. I got 975 ohms.

I tried messuring between the connector going into the speed sensor and up to the ABS ECU harness, but no luck. Meassuring between the two pins on the connector I get 13ohms though, so something is between there.

Looking at the Service manual there is a connector called C-33, its the 13 pin connector. But where is it located?

Is it possible you aren't hooked up to the correct pins at the ABS ECU connector? I remember this was a little confusing but I went through the whole system:

Bob, thanks for the pic. But what a pain in the A** to get to them :P

Jimvr4, the ABS system have worked before, so i dont see how I got the pins wrong. I have meassured pins thru all the pins on the procedure you went thru, and the only pins I cant get any values from are pins 33/31. Even when i take each pins to ground I get nothing.
But checking the speed sensor it self im getting 975ohms.

Heres a pic of the plug going to the speed sensor, small damage.

And this is the cluster of connector where im trying to find C-33 so I can chech the cable.

The diagram shows those wires as twisted pairs <T>
I would look for a connector that has those color wires twisted together.
(according to your diagram the colors depends on the year of your car)

I took some pictures of the ABS ECU harness.
The car is a 1992 VR4, im not sure if all the cables are original or not. Looking on the connectors numbers I got a little suprised that there was no wire connected to #33.

    front of connector E-12

    numbers on the connector:

I counted they way the image Speed Sensor diagram said the connector was numbered, so I hope I got it right, even if on the back there is no cable run to #33

It looks like the numbers on the connector run backwards from the diagram in the manual.
I took another look at your under dash picture and think I found C-33
(I think if you feel the harness you'll find the black/red and green/white wires are twisted around each other.)
You should be able to find the other end of these wires at E-12.
There are two sets of black/red and green/white wires, one from the front wheels (through C-33) and another from the rear.
    The fronts are on E-12 pins 15-14 (Green/White) and 33-31 (black/red)
    The rears are on E-12 pins 10-11 (Green/White) and 30-28 (black/red)

thats what I found out today i just followed the wires from E-12 and back, but what a pain to get to it.

it looks good from C-33 back to E-12, but measuring from Female C-33 back to speed sensor I get nothing. Im looking at a broken wire somewhere. I did see that the cable going back to C-33 had some damage to it, and there is probably more I cant see.

After the weekend im planning on running new wires from Speed Sensor to C-33, or just splicing the new wires to the ones going into the Male C-33 connector..hope this fixes the problem with the anti lock

thanks for the inputs Bob, Jim and Steve
