im no tax expert or realestate agent but im willing to bet you can deduct most of that from taxes and you will prolly get every penny back out of it when selling the home if placed properly

You can't get a tax deduction... we have already looked into some things this year for "home improvements" and "home repairs".

Do you have neighbors, like immediately next to you? If you are just building a "storm shelter", you might be able to ask them if they want to go half in and put it to where both houses could get to it easily.

NASHVILLE – Tennessee taxpayers who purchase qualifying building supplies to construct storm shelters between July 1, 2011 and December 31, 2011 can save up to $2,500 on sales tax paid on certain construction supplies, due to recently passed legislation.

I don't think they would, if they don't have a tornado plan. You wouldn't believe what our neighbor has asked us to go half in on... like stupid shit... not life saving shit.
