Black Stone Report --- Not Good!!!

So while I had the Stealth apart installing the FMIC and replacing the oil cooler lines, I'm also doing an oil change. Finally got to take a sample and send it off.....

Well.... Not to happy with the results. Yes I did run the car almost 5000 miles since the last oil change. Not on purpose mind you. I track my mileage but lost the damn note that I wrote it down on. I ended up finding it about two weeks ago when cleaning up the shop and that's when I told myself that it was getting changed when I did the FMIC.

I am wondering is a lot of these numbers can be tracked back to me installing the Water/Meth kit and the various other maintenance I have done on the engine since the last oil change. Which includes 3rd gen lifters, SS Oil feed lines,Etc.

Besides dirt what other reason could there be for the high silicon reading? I have no air intake leaks and the filter is brand new.

Also the copper lead and tin could be cause last oil change I did pull and check all of the bearing, which are all fine......

Check this post for the oil report: http://www.3sgto.org/f2/black-stone-...tml#post179666

I would use the same oil & send them another sample after 3000 miles, as per their request. I might just send in a sample myself.

Yeah I'm going to run this one for exactly 3000 miles and send it in. I'm just hoping the high levels are due to the maintenance and mileage.... not an internal issue! but if it was that's more motivation to get my TT block finished....

I had 5k miles on some Rotella T6 with 2 lapping days and an autocross and my wear levels were not even 25% what yours are, I would be worried.

Do the 3k mile sample, if the results are the same your motor is wearing out.

Ouch. Yea, those numbers are really high. Here's my report from a couple years back, same oil as you on an original 129k motor/turbos. I was swapping a fresher block and newer turbos that winter, so I wanted to see how long I could run the T6. The answer was, apparently a REALLY long time.

Agreed on the 3k sample next. If you're really worried, you can order their vacuum pump, and draw a sample through the dipstick tube without changing the oil and send a sample after 1k. That's what I did on mine. Nowadays I just run a 4k interval, and send a standard sample in to keep track of wear every change.

Interesting. The high silicon numbers might result from sealer used when installing the oil pan. Question: I'm no lube expert but it's my understanding that diesel oils keep the engine cleaner than do automotive oils - more detergents to keep the particles in suspension. Is there any chance this is the first time Rotella has been used in your engine? If so, perhaps it is just cleaning out all the crud that the previous automobile oils left behind?

Another question is why didn't you just go ahead and replace the bearings when you expended all the effort and had the oil pan off? Certainly not being critical but just wondering. Like others above have echoed, keep on top of it.

There is a difference between silicon and silicone. Silicon is an element where as silicone is a compound. The silicon they are referring to is mostly silicon oxide found as glass/sand particles.

I have always ran Rottella in the engine for the last 6 years now. I didn't change the bearings as there was no need to. They looked great when I checked them. I only checked them cause I had a knocking noise that I thought was rod knock but turned out to be a damn loose cam bolt!!!

I just thought of something if it matters... This sample was taken cold about mid stream! I was installing a FMIC when I took the sample so I couldn't let the engine run to get things circulating.

@fg - Which Filter? Oil or Air.....

I think the old filter was a Mobile 1. Air filter is a Spectre which I really need to replace. I am running a Fram Oil filter now.
