I use Wix filters, work well, dont let any particulates through, and dont fail.

Any filter that does all that is worth being on your car whether its 5 dollars (wix) or 15 dollars (K&N, Mobil 1, Royal Purple)

Hi Drgonzo - -Yeah, understand the difference between silicon and silicone - but the report message section from Blackstone said that sealer might cause some of the high readings, so hoping that might be an inexpensive explantion. The report is just screaming bearing wear but since you just checked them - I dunno, it's a mystery to me. Did you find any thing unusual in the bottom of the oil pan - in the crud that normally accumulates there? Like particles or shavings? Use any extreme pressure break-in oil additives? Just trying to trigger a few thoughts - something is just not right, not adding up. Like others have said, might want to do another sample in a thousand miles or so and then again when you change the oil. The reason for my interest is I rebuilt my engine last year and used Castrol for the first five-hundred miles or so then switched to Shell Rotella Snythetic. Good luck and keep us informed as to what you find.

Yeah I completely forgot about the orange can of death issues....... I need to find a local place to get a Wix or a Purolator. Have to change it anyway as something is slow leaking by the oil filer. Probably the damn filter o-ring binded. Luckily the car is not my DD.

    Check it out on Youtube!!

My local Advance carries Purolator, where Auto Zone does not.

Speaking of which... Advanced auto has a Penzoil or Mobil 1 oil change deal right now. If you buy 5 quarts you get a free filter. Cost me $32 bucks today at Advanced for a gallon jug of Mobil 1 5w-30 and I got a Mobil 1 #104 filter for free (that things usually $14). I think the oil change special is running thru the end of the month.

Don't worry too much about it Gonzo. You know how to build of these so drive it till she pops.

Fwiw, I know of 3 wix filters that failed last year, 2 of which were on my dad's car (nova w/sbc) and one on a friends camaro (bbc). It could be that they are just faulty in the old chevrolet motors, but the filters were faulty/very restrictive and caused very low oil pressure in all 3 cases. My dad has always run a fram filter, and I run them on my stealth (mainly bc they are the only filter that will fit do to the way my oil lines were reinstalled) and I have never personally seen one fail nor do I know anyone who has had one fail. Has anyone here ever had any issues with them?

I will say that my oil pressure really went up after the Fram install. Cold idle and now running Rottella 5w-40 my oil pressure was at 74 psi!!! Once it warmed up it was at 20psi at idle. Now I don't know if this is due to the filter or the oil weight or the fact that I replaced my kinked oil cooler lines with -8AN lines. But I've got great oil pressure now. I just hope that the increase in oil pressure is not due to a restriction in the oil filter lowing the oil flow....... Guess I'll find out this weekend when I change out the filter

My dad swore by Fram as well, until he noticed that the filter for his Fiesta didn't have the pressure relief valve... I think he bought a Pure One.

FWIW Every car forum I've ever been on recommends a K&N/Mobil 1 or a Pure One filter. I even have a Pure One on my bike

How do the OEM filters stack up? That's what I've been running.
