What is this stuff inside my strut boot?

Swapping out OEM suspension w/Eibach's from my donor/project. While cleaning up the Eibach assemblies, I noticed this stuff crumbling inside the strut boot. Is it what's left of the "stop"? Do I really need it? If so, what do I replace it with?

Yup that is the stop, its not absolutely neccesary, but i would recommend putting one back in there. The struts you take the springs off of should have a set the comes with the eibach springs.

Thanks...this is what was in the assemblies I am swapping into my TT.
Can't imagine they would ever really do any stopping....unless they deteriorated immensely.
    Are there replacements available? Alternatives?

Thats why i recommend putting them back in there.

DV8 if you are interested in a new set i can call eibach in the morning and see if they sell replacements. The eibach and other spring sets usually come with a new set to work with the lower springs. So im sure they must are available.

Found them at Summit...25ea....ouch. This elastomer material seems too soft and obviously doesn't hold up well ...wouldn't rubber do better?
