Let's keep this in perspective. They lost to the Packers by a FG in regular season. They then went into Lambeau and smashed GB by 17 in the 2nd round of the playoffs. They lost to the Pats in 07, again by a FG(exact same score as the Pack game this year, 38-35). Then went on to beat the Pats by a FG in the Superbowl. I'm failing to see how this doesn't reaffirm my position.
This stuff goes up and down. Look at the AFC West, talent is waaay down in that division, for the moment. It's just the way it goes. In time, those teams will rise again, and current powers will slip. Kinda what makes the NFL enjoyable, IMO, the lack of the Yankess factor that can buy you world championships.
I can understand some of the logic there. But, when you're afforded no bye week, I'm not going to buy that battling your way through FOUR games (1 being the defending SB/NFC champ, and 2 on the road) isn't one hell of a measure of your program. Claiming "luck" in that scenario, is total bullshit. That's skill, determination, and good coaching. It's certainly no cake walk being a low seed. Again, bottom seed GB last year did the same thing. I don't recall much complaining about that...
