    Need Best Fluids Hands Down

I need recommendations on what oil to use for my high mileage Vr4?Also I have a brand new transmission and need a fluid to handle the winter months as well as it does in the summer months. How often should I change it? I usually run Royal Purple in my camaro but some thing tells me that's just not going to cut it for the Vr4.

this isn't a recommendation but some inc myself use 20/50 in vr4's, some swear by royal purple.

if the car has lifter tick most oils will not cure it, the only way of shutting those up is by experimenting with different oil, but thats a costly way round it. i wish i could say thet 20/50 shuts them up but that never worked on sarahs. altho its a good thick oil and will give good oil pressure even in worn oil pumps, this i can confirm.

Rotella 15w40 is what a lot of people run, there was a huge thread on 3si about it, and the concensus was Rotella's the best.

180,000 miles and still runs strong without any engine leaks or noises...I just want to keep it running a long as possible

For the Rotella thing - I haven't run it in my car yet, but when I worked in a shop we carried rotella as our bulk oil. It was a private shop, so we serviced our companies vehicles only. Longest running motor on Rotella - 993K in a '92 Peterbuilt. Engine replaced and it's gone an additional 700K using the same oil.

I consider that a pretty good endorsement. I know CAT motors can last a long time, but a million miles on a single build tells me that good maintenance and good fluids/filters/etc had to play something.

Basically from UOA from the road course guys Redline 10w40, Rotella T Syn 5w40, Rotella T 15w10 in that order. That 5 million page mobil 1 sucks thread basically boils down to that.

For your engine i would suggest a 20w50 being high mileage, we run Brad Penn in all our cars its $6.50 (Not bad for a high end oil) a quart and hasn't given us an issue yet. You choice on oil that you can get though if you dont want to wait for shipping.

For your transmission there are only two fluids i would recommend.

1- OEM Diaqueen transmission fluid only down side is its $94 for a gallon and thats the only way to get it
2- Redline MT-90 thats what we use in all our race cars and street cars, works great, my tranny shifts like butter with it. Its also only 13.50 per qt (you need 3) so 1/3 the price of OEM.

-Ricer Evo 8: 8.75 @ 166 Best MPH of 167. Quickest 4G63 Powered Evo in The US!!!
-Chris Cessna's Stock short block Evo 8: 9.76@150 Worlds Fastest Stock Motor Evo 8 and First Stock Block In The 9's!
-Shawna's DD Evo 8: 9.97@143.88 Best MPH of 145 Full leather interior, A/C, navigation, stock brakes, cruisin 9's in style
-Cory's Stock 7 bolt talon: 10.3@136 No crank walk here...
-STM Stock turbo/motor Stealth RT: 10.95@127 Worlds Quyickest/Fastest and most powerful Stock turbo/ motor 3S
-James STM built Pump gas Evo8 stock motor: 10.2@137 Stock long block, and only on pump gas!
    -Mike Faggiano Evo3 16g stock motor 1g 11.0@124 just a 16g knockin on 10's door.
    And the list goes on...

Not sure if you are aware of it but Redline just released MT-85 which is the correct called for weight for the transmission. Since MT-90 is slightly too heavy.

I thought there was redline MT-85 now for trans.

I have been using rotella T 15w40 in all my cars for years and it does great.
