Been working on this one for a few months. Without going into all of the theory behind a good splitter here's what I have done. My buddies wife who's into carbon manufacturing and vacuum bagging was kind enough to make a piece for me. It's a multi-layer, over/under wrap with 2k twill carbon with a .250 foam core. It needs to extend beyond the radiator at the very least to create high pressure in front and low pressure behind the radiator to be effective. This does and then some.
With this front bumper cover, the bottom isn't exactly flat. In fact, the back side skirt area was nearly 2.5 inches than the front leading edge. So keeping the splitter flat would have created a big gap along the front of the cover. I took some thin sheet aluminum and heated it so it would be easily formable around the curve of the bumper. Quinching it quickly with a cold spray would help it keep it's shape. I then glued it directly to the splitter. This does two things. It makes to where it's "floating" with the splitter for vibrations and only the splitter itself is attached to the cover and crossmembers. (also allows for adjustments with the stay rods) Tape, paint, clear, you can see the results.
Ultimately, it needs to be strong. It will be subjected to a tremendous amount of downforce. Sooooo, yeah.....
Thoughts? Comments? Questions or concerns? Let's hear it. Anyone else make one of these?
