Need Best Fluids Hands Down

I need recommendations on what oil to use for my high mileage Vr4?
Also I have a brand new transmission and need a fluid to handle the winter months as well as it does in the summer months. How often should I change it?

For oil i have been using Valvoline Max Life 20w50 (bad VSS & high mileage). Whether this is the best oil to use i don't know. I have read to many articles on the "other site" and i have come out with no clear winner.
