Transfer case Leak and Recall Question

Figured I'd make the first Transfer Case recall thread on the forum.

On Sunday I got under the car and noticed this.

Looks like she has been seeping for a while, there has never been any noticeable drip, but the seal seems to not be up to its job anymore.

Now, I'm new to having an AWD, for those familiar with the recall

    (I've read most of this)
Transfer Case Recall - IMPORTANT, Pleas Read!!!! - 3000GT/Stealth International Message Center

Is this something that would be covered under the recall?
Will I run into issues given that my car is a salvage title?
Should I just call up my local Mistu and ask them?

Or is this not part of the recall and just a sign that I need to redo the seals on my car?

    Thanks!

    -John

Yes it would be covered. Best bet is to contact ur local dealers. IIRC stealerships aren't very excited about this work. Easy job to do yourself, IMHO, 3si has kit. Check fluid level of X-case. Cat piss smell of gear oils is very distinct.

Hey guys how can I tell if a transfer case has gone bad and locked up. The car the transfer case is on was wrecked. But I want to see if the transfer case might of been the cause. I just found out about the recall they had.

P.S. Not trying to hijack the thread, just want to see if this might of been the cause in my brothers wreck. He had a 93 RT/TT.

Two things. Disconnect the propellar shaft at the diff and see if you can turn it by hand. Also check the fluid level in the T-case by opening up the fill hole. If it's a 6 speed T-case the fluid level should be right at the edge of the fill hole. The fill level on the 5 speed T-case depends on model year with the 91-92 getting 0.5 inch below the edge and 93+ getting filled to the edge of the fill hole.

Could the difference between the 91-92 and 93 model be the different splines? That might make it more accurate for those interested.

Makes sense but I've never seen fill levels documented according to the splines.

Tell me about it, all I've ever worked on were Texas cars, this one used to live in Ohio, then I picked her up in Pennsylvania, the surface rust freaked me out at first, now I'm slowly cleaning it all up. haha

    Good luck on the projects.

My xfer case has been leaking for years. I have been topping it off every oil change and putting up with stains all over my driveway, but recently the leak got worse and I started hearing bearing noise. I dropped it off at the local Dodge dealer last week and they honored the recall; I drove it home today with a brand new xfer case.
